In high school science courses, YSD students work to demonstrate proficiency in science concepts and practices. Students engage in the following science practices as a way to build conceptual understanding of the content:
- asking questions and defining problems;
- developing and using models;
- planning and carrying out investigations;
- analyzing and interpreting data;
- using mathematics and computational thinking;
- constructing explanations and designing solutions;
- engaging in argument from evidence; and
- obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information.
Students move from one course to the next progressing through content standards while continually revisiting and engaging in the same eight science practices.
