 This general mathematic course for English Language Development (ELD) program students reinforces and expands students' foundational mathematic skills, such a s arithmetic operations using rational numbers; area, perimeter, and volume of geometric figures, congruence and similarity, angle relationships, the Pythagorean Theorem, the rectangular coordinate system, sets and logic, ratio and proportion, estimation, formulas, solving and graphing simple equations and inequalities. 

Prerequisites

This course is designed for high school students who are new to the country, whose responses to home language surveys indicate that they speak a language other than English, and who score at the novice performance level on the initial WIDA and have been identified as a student with interrupted formal education (SIFE). Students take a math assessment identified by English Language Development program to determine need for course. Students typically remain in the newcomer program for two semesters,but those who make sufficient progress may remain for only one.
