This is the continuation of the curriculum that was taught in the Food Science A; 1st year course. Are you still hungry? Students will continue to apply science in the process of making food and beverages that you get to eat and drink!
Additional food preparation & cooking skills will be taught and implemented in a variety of labs. Examine current food issues and concerns that focus on the lifelong relationship to your health and well-being in exploring modification or changing of diet or eating lifestyles. Nutrition including dieticties and advanced education of becoming a registered dietician or earning a specialization in food and nutrition in post-secondary education will be explored. The opportunity to earn a ServSafe certification and a Red Cross First Aid and CPR card will be given during the 1st semester. Students will explore the hospitality industry with possible internships with local food businesses during 2nd semester. Students will have the opportunities to earn certificates for passing the following Precision Exams for 21st Century Skills, Culinary Arts II, and Nutrition & Wellness that may be placed in their digital portfolio and put on their resume. FCCLA is a Career and Technical Student Organization that will be used in this class that includes Power of One projects, Competitive Events and Skill Demonstration opportunities that allows students to earn recognition, be a part of an organization that focuses on personal growth, leadership, community service, and career exploration.
