The advanced art course is designed for students to experience creative process and encourage them to become creative thinkers and problem solvers in whatever profession they pursue. Students will continue to acquire background knowledge, increase skills and experience new medias. Advanced art encourages students to deeper-level, creative experiences after acquiring foundational knowledge and skills that allow the innovative process to take place within them. As students becomes deeper-level creative thinkers, they will grow in new ways to explore, investigate, create, develop, design and work exclusively in quadrant D (imaginative) of the brain where we want our students to dwell. We live in a world that is demanding innovative thinkers in all professions—this course will provide the essential components that will develop and increase creative thinking!

MUB110, MUB111: PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

This class is meant to develop fundamental skills in percussionists including mallets, snare drum, bass drum, timpani, world instruments, etc. This ensemble performs advanced percussion literature in small ensemble settings as well as learning and performing the music with the concert Band, Advanced Band, and Wind Ensemble. These students are also involved as the percussion section for the marching band. Students are involved in numerous activities outside the day including, concerts, extra rehearsals, contests, community events and seasonal performances with the other bands. Students in this class will also participate in Solo and Ensemble. Private lessons are strongly recommended. Involvement in this class is viewed as a full school-year commitment. Uniform fee is required.

MUB110, MUB111: PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

MUB200, MUB201: MARCHING BAND

This class will meet outside of the school day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Marching Band is active during the fall and spring months and performs at all football games in addition to various parades and civic functions. Grading will be based on daily performance, playing/routine test, and performance participation. The class will meet 3 hours a day - twice a week.

This ensemble performs intermediate to advanced traditional and contemporary concert band literature. Emphasis is on refinement of practice and performance techniques. Mariachi students learn traditional Mexican music that is appropriate to the skill level of the students. We concentrate on correct instrumental techniques, music ready skills, memorization, ear training, and stage presence.

This ensemble performs and teaches the fundamentals of jazz through the art of improvisation and performance in the jazz idiom through big band and small combo ensembles. This group is for advanced level students. Students must be co-enrolled in one of the concert ensembles classes for band, choir or orchestra with the exception of guitar and piano. Students are involved in numerous activities outside the day including, concerts, extra rehearsals, contests, community events and other performances. This class is limited to the size of ensembles traditional to the big band/jazz band idiom. Private lessons with some jazz instruction are strongly recommended. Involvement in this class is viewed as a full school-year commitment. Uniform fee is required.

They will be given the opportunity to experience and perform music of various styles and historic periods. Each student must be self-motivated and able to learn challenging parts on her/his own. This group will perform 5-7 times throughout the school year, including fundraisers and out-of-town festivals and performances.

MUC120, MUC121: TREBLE CHOIR

This is a select group for the treble voice. Each singer will be challenged to reach his/her full potential. Students will learn basic and advanced singing techniques and will be given the opportunity to experience and perform music of various styles and historic periods. Each student must be self-motivated and willing to work on music outside of class. Music Theory and sight-singing are also an important part of the curriculum. This group will perform 5-7 times throughout the school year, including fundraisers and out-of-town festivals and performances.

MUC210, MUC211: JAZZ CHOIR

This is a select group for the advanced singer. Class is limited to 24 singers, a piano player, drummer, bassist, guitarist and sound technician. Each student will be challenged to reach his/her full potential. Course content is vocal jazz music. Students may be expected to perform at times with the Chamber Choir where they will learn basic and advanced singing techniques and be given the opportunity to experience and perform music of various styles and historic periods. Each student must be highly dedicated, self-motivated and must be able to learn challenging parts on her/his own. Music theory and sight-singing are also an important part of the curriculum. This group will perform 5-7 times during the entire school year.

MUC210, MUC211: JAZZ CHOIR

This is a select group for the advanced singer. Class is limited to 24 singers, a piano player, drummer, bassist, guitarist and sound technician. Each student will be challenged to reach his/her full potential. Course content is vocal jazz music. Students may be expected to perform at times with the Chamber Choir where they will learn basic and advanced singing techniques and be given the opportunity to experience and perform music of various styles and historic periods. Each student must be highly dedicated, self-motivated and must be able to learn challenging parts on her/his own. Music theory and sight-singing are also an important part of the curriculum. This group will perform 5-7 times during the entire school year.

MUC220, MUC221: SHOW CHOIR

This is a select group for the advanced singer. Class is limited to 18 singers, a piano player, drummer, bassist, guitarist and sound technician. Each student will be challenged to reach his/her full potential. Course content is mostly Musical Theatre and Pop music and may be expected to perform at times with the Chamber Choir. Students will learn basic and advanced singing techniques and be given the opportunity to experience and perform music of various styles and historic periods. Each student must be highly dedicated, self-motivated and must be able to learn challenging parts on her/his own. Music theory, sight-singing, and dance are also an important part of the curriculum. This group will perform 7-10 times during the entire school year.

MUG110: BEGINNING GUITAR

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of musical concepts related to the structure and stylistic elements of music. They will also gain the skills necessary to perform musical operations, which include the care and maintenance of the instrument, proper playing technique, musical literacy and the use of aural imagery.

This course will provide students with a fundamental understanding of key music concepts such as chord structure, rhythm and style. Students will also gain the skills needed to perform with proper technique, interpret musical notation and symbols, maintain their instrument and collaborate with other musicians.

Music Appreciation is an introductory course to music. Students will explore music's various functionalities in order to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for all types of music.
